Fun fact Friday, Adam Driver edition.

Well, here we are the last Friday in January. We went from 2020 feeling like it was never going to end to blowing right through the first month of 2021. Since it’s the last Friday of the month it’s the celebrity edition so check out these fun facts about our beloved Adam Driver.

Adam is a talented musician.

Not only is the man a phenomenal actor but he is a talented musician as well. Growing up, both his father and stepfather were preachers, and he sang in the church choir. He got to show off a little of singing skills in Joel and Ethan Coen’s Inside Llewyn Davis as well as A Marriage Story. He also plays the piano.

Adam and his wife cofounded a nonprofit organization for soldiers.

Adam along with his wife helps soldiers with Arts in the Armed Forces, a nonprofit organization they founded in 2006. Their mission is to bring “high-quality arts programming to active duty service members, veterans, military support staff, and their families around the world free of charge.” Based on his own experiences, Driver believes that theater communities can be a beneficial resource for soldiers and veterans who might have a tough time expressing what they’re going through transitioning back to normal life.

Adam was in the Marines.

Adam was in the Marines for almost three years before he had to be medically discharged due to dislocating his sternum in a bike accident (ouch). He was a Lance Corporal at the time he was discharged.

He met his wife while they were both attending Juilliard.

After being medically discharged from the Marines, Adam attended the University of Indianapolis for a year and then decided to audition for Juilliard again. Adam had applied for Juilliard previously however he was rejected, after being in the Marine Corp he told M Magazine he felt like he could do anything so he auditioned again and this time he got in. As fate would have it, he met JoAnne Tucker there. The two graduated in 2009 and married a few years later in 2013.

He’s a father in real life.

In October of 2019, Adam confirmed that he does in fact have a son. While he may be a major Hollywood star, Adam chooses to keep his life off-screen very private. So much so that he was a father for a couple of years before we found out. Eventually, people pieced it together when an Instagram post by Joanne’s sister showed the back of his son’s head. Driver called the efforts to hide his son’s existence “a military operation.” He said, “My job is to be a spy – to be in public and live life and have experience. But, when you feel like you’re the focus, it’s really hard to do that.” In his most recent Saturday Night Live monologue, he stated, “Some facts about me; I’m a husband and a father.” The audience of course cheered, he then continued, “Thank you. It’s in that order though. I’ve been very clear with my son about that, he’s second in everything.” I bet he is just the best dad ever.
