Fun fact Friday, Ashley Eckstein & Rosario Dawson Edition.

Happy Friday and Merry Christmas if that’s your thing! It’s the last Friday of the month so that means it’s fun facts, actor edition. The character of the month this month is Ahsoka so check out these facts about Ashley Eckstein and Rosario Dawson.

Being that Ashley is the original Ahsoka it’s only right we start with her.

Her Universe.

You’ve probably seen me post a lot about their clothes but did you know Ashley founded Her Universe in 2010? “Ashley launched Her Universe with the mission to create stylish, fashion-forward merchandise for female sci-fi fans. Her Universe is a place for fangirls to step into the spotlight and be heard, recognized, and rewarded. Ashley’s goal, from the beginning, was to build the company into a stand-alone entertainment and merchandise brand and, today, Her Universe is leading the way. Hoping to change the perception that science fiction and fantasy is just for boys, Her Universe has joined forces with some of the biggest names in the sci-fi/fantasy world to create fangirl apparel and accessories for such well-known names as Star Wars, Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Marvel.” Credit Her Universe

Before she was an actress Ashley was a cast member and Disney World’s Hollywood Studios.

As a young girl, I knew I wanted to be an actress. You could say that my very first screen test was at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The week the Studios opened I got to make a “movie” with my siblings in one of the shops on Hollywood Boulevard. Yes it was cheesy and we had to pay for it, but hey, I could put it in the VCR and watch it…it was “real.” My next-door neighbor was a cameraman for The Mickey Mouse Club and I got to go to a few live tapings when I was in elementary school. I got to see a real live TV show being filmed right in front of my eyes and then I would go home and watch it on my television. It made the dream of being on a TV set tangible. From that moment, I dreamed that one day I would be on a Disney Channel show too. That was my goal, and if Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake could do it, so could I. In high school, when I turned 16, it was my turn to be a Disney cast member. I wanted to work for Disney SO badly that I turned in my application on my 16th birthday. After several auditions, I finally got my big break and I was cast as a cheerleader in the Hercules Parade. I got to dance down Hollywood Blvd. Thanks to Disney, I was able to perform in front of thousands of people on the weekends and it made my dream, again, feel tangible.

Ashley Eckstein

Ashley was in the Disney Channel series ”That’s So Raven.”

If you’re like me, you grew up watching That’s So Raven. At the time you probably didn’t know who she was but Ashley played Muffy, who was apart of Alana’s (Raven’s enemy) posse. She appeared in eight episodes. The first being Run Raven Run and the last being Sister Act.

Not only did Ashley introduce us to the Ahsoka we know and love but she is just an all-around wonderful person. She is a huge advocate for mental health if you follow her on Instagram you may have seen her Mental Health Monday posts. If you don’t follow her you definitely should. She talks to all kinds of people about the important things when it comes to Mental health and taking care of ourselves. It’s truly inspirational.

Now for the woman who brought us Ahsoka in live-action. Here are some things about Rosario Dawson you may not know.

Once she learned she had the role of Ahsoka Tano, Rosario went back and marathoned Clone Wars and Rebels.

“There was so much material to work from. I think that was definitely a huge benefit for me. I was marathoning the show from beginning to the end, putting in the movies,” she says. “It was really fun to see how Ahsoka’s physicality changed, and her facial expressions changed, and her voice and her tenor changed as she just evolved.”

Rosario Dawson

She adopted an 11 year old back in 2014.

I’m an interview with Us Weekly back in 2018 Rosario explained that she had been planning to adopt since she was 5 years old. Her father wasn’t biologically hers and she was about 5 when she learned this.

“Growing up in the neighborhood that I grew up in, I was like, ‘Oh, so then I could be like some of my friends who have single-parent households. Like, that could be me.’ So I remember I told my mom at 5 that when I got older, I was gonna adopt and I was gonna adopt older.”

If you follow her on Instagram you will see sweet photos of them together and also some typical teenage responses to some of Rosario’s more “embarrassing” photos.

She is a philanthropist and an activist.

Rosario has been involved with many charities and philanthropy programs such as Doctor Without Borders, Conservation International and Save the Children. She was also involved in the Respect! Campaign which targeted at preventing domestic violence in 2008. She did the voicing for the campaigns of Giverespect.org, a website that also advocated against domestic violence.

Well, that’s it for this Friday’s fun facts, I hope you enjoyed reading about the amazing ladies who bring us one of our most beloved characters. Have a great weekend and check back next week for more fun facts!
